When our clients purchased this property, they saw more than just an investment in this charming mid-century home; they saw the potential to create a warm, welcoming space for a refugee family. They wanted to preserve the unique character of the home while also giving it a bit of a refresh. The standout feature was a rare (functioning!) pink GE kitchen from the 1950s, which immediately became the heart of the design. Inspired by this playful centerpiece, we introduced whimsical wallpaper and terrazzo floors that would balance the bright colors and add a modern yet timeless feel. When we uncovered the original hardwood floors hiding beneath some badly worn green carpeting, we gave them new life by refinishing them and pairing them with crisp white walls to create a light, open atmosphere. Black-stained exposed beams were added for a hint of that Northern California mid-mod vibe, and we embraced the home’s quirks by working around unconventional electrical placements and adding lighting that enhanced its character. Now, the home flows between cozy, neutral spaces with unexpected pops of color - like the original seafoam green bathroom sinks. This transformation celebrates the charm and personality of the original design, adding a touch of warmth that makes it a true *Pretty in Pink* glow-up.
